Fairness in Religions in School in South Australia (FIRIS-SA) is a parent-driven grassroots effort, committed to working for inclusive education about religions in government schools.
Our aims are to:
- Maintain an inclusive school curriculum that does not require any student to withdraw from class or any school activities on account of different religious beliefs.
- Formally cease the practice of inviting religious groups in to offer religious instruction or to minister to children on an opt-out or opt-in basis during time that children are legally obligated to be at school.
- Follow an objective, fair and balanced comparative syllabus for education about religion and irreligious beliefs that does not impose on the religious differences of South Australian families and promotes religious neutrality.
- Treat all religious organisations who wish to use the school facilities outside of the school day with transparent and equitable policies.
We are not associated with any organisation, political party, clique or faction but align our aims in South Australia with FIRIS in Victoria.
